Home-Brew Pop Pop boat, it really works !

So as you can see from my previous post, I recently discovered “pop pop” boats on a day trip to Whitby. I was interested to find out all about how these boats work and after looking on YouTube I found some great videos by “sciencetoymaker” which show how to make a Pop-Pop engine using an empty drinks can and some straws. I needed some Epoxy glue (which is a very strong and hard setting adhesive) and a hot glue gun. “Sciencetoymaker” also provides templates for making a boat to house the engine, from a milk or juice carton.

I didn’t expect too much success from my first attempt so was amazed when the engine worked the first time I tried to run it! I glued the engine into the boat and tested it in the bath!  As you can see, it works quite well!  I may put a deck and a cabin on the boat, and if I can be bothered I may paint it!

IE 9 Beta available for Windows Vista and Windows 7

The next offering for Internet Explorer users from Microsoft is on its way! version 9 of the web browser was released today as a public beta. I’m an IE user so I was checking the download page throughout the day of launch waiting for the link to be posted! My initial impressions are that this is a very fast browser. It has a very simple and clean look, not unlike Google’s Chrome browser. The interface looks good, and the hardware accelerate makes the experience slick and smooth.
HTML 5 support promises many new features, and Bing (Microsoft’s search engine) were quick to release a preview of some of the possibilities of HTML 5 on their new browser (video below)
I’ve installed the beta on my laptop, my netbook, and my office laptop and so far so good.
